Project Overview

THE TASK

SESAC, one of the premier music licensing organizations in the U.S., needed a complete overhaul of their outdated website to better serve both established artists and potential new clients. Representing legendary musicians like Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons, and Green Day, SESAC required a polished, modern design that reflected their industry status while providing intuitive access to essential information. The site also functions as a key marketing tool—highlighting events, sharing news, and driving engagement through high-profile publicity features.

MY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the site is fully responsive and functions flawlessly across all devices, with a particular focus on mobile accessibility for younger, on-the-go songwriters.
  • Strengthen ties to SESAC’s popular social media channels by embedding YouTube video content and streamlining access to Instagram, X, and Facebook updates.
  • Organize a wide range of services, events, and artist stories into a digestible, user-first content structure.
  • Modernize SESAC’s online identity to better reflect their place as an innovative leader in music rights and licensing.

TOOLS & TECHNOLOGIES

  • UI Design & Wireframing: Adobe Illustrator CC
  • Prototyping: InVision
  • Development: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery

KEY CHALLENGES

  • SESAC’s broad audience—from established artists to up-and-coming musicians—meant balancing aesthetics with practical navigation for varying levels of web literacy.
  • Their legacy CMS posed integration limitations that required careful front-end optimization and testing.
  • Numerous departments contributed content, necessitating a clear, scalable design system that supported consistency without sacrificing flexibility.

SOLUTION

I began by mapping the site’s key user journeys to better understand how different audiences accessed the site. We restructured the site architecture around artist needs—membership, licensing, events, and promotion—using a mobile-first design approach. For visual impact, I introduced a modular grid system that prioritized artist photography and video content, while allowing SESAC’s internal team to easily update events and news.

We embedded dynamic video players for SESAC’s high-profile event recaps and added persistent social links throughout the experience. The final design reflected SESAC’s prestige, while also providing a flexible platform for content publishing and promotion.
